TRENTHAM, Yesterday. The Governor, the Admiral, and Genera] Babiugton, with Messrs Hall-Jones, Duncan, and Camjl were present at the Championship matcli. i 'I'lie shooting generally was poor, and the went her turned out unfavourable. A shower fell at the commencement, and there was a haze over the targets. At the earlier stage none of the leading shots got fair hiK Saadfonl opening without anything, Hyde and King with a magpie, and A. Ballinger an outer, Soon a ter the young ( 'hristchurch man completely burst, ami it was soon evident that the question of the Belt remained between Hvde and King. With half a dozen shots gone, King, Wfto held live points from the champion' 1» 1 further increased his advantage, but is. the next four shots they were °aU together again so far as .shooting at this range was concerned. At this time the whole interest centred in the two Opaki' men, and there were many who thought rlyde was about to win the Belt outright, but King, who had missed his fourteenth .shot, had only to hit to win the championship, and lie got a magpie with his last shot, thus preventing the Belt going out of the Association. The result was received with cheers from a large number of col leagues and spectators. Howe, of .Wellington, wins the Rifle Challenge Cup, as head scorer in this match with 01.
