COMMERCIAL REPORT.
Messrs Bisley Bros, and Co. report on the lire stock market as follows : — i Our annual Kani Fair was held at the Railway Sale Yards, Richmond, on Friday last. T bo day broke dull and heavy, I and at an early hour hea-y rain fell, the result being that; a start was not made till noon The arrangement for conducting the sales were of a moßt complete nature, and buyers of imported sheep found eve. y convenience, as all pena were ticketed, describing the class, and also giving Ihe names of breeders. The ramß yarded numbered some 400, also about 2500 store and fat sheep, and 530 hoadof cattle. There was a good representative Gathering, including our principal stock Swno s from all parts of the province and tho West Coast. One of the features of these entries worthy of note u Ihe rapiditw with which tbo Shropshire Down sheep' have swung into popular favour, and tbe corresponding decline in LinI coins Amongst the entries were to be noticed sheep from all the principal sheep breeding parts of the colony, and the fact that such breeders as Lincoln College, Canterbury; VV. Grant, Timaru; Messrs Nel-on Brothers, Hike's Bay ; Matthew Bid well, tJealey. Dorsetf, North Island, have thought tit to hare their stock represented is positive proof that Nelson is freely acknowledged to be an important centre' for the distribution of stock. Including the principal sales there were on account of Nelson Brothers, Englisb Leicester tarns, purchased by Mr James Gibbs at £42 7s 6d 5 Komuoy Marsh, bred by Mr Bid well, North Island, purchaser* being Mr Fillicre, £4 17s 6d, Bar G. Wilkie buying a pen at £4, 5s each; On account of Mr Matthews the firm offered some first class Byoiney Marsh rams; the p incipal sales being made with Mr Wither £3 10s, Mr Fillicre ,£3 15s. 'Ihe highest priced Roniney Marsh rams wero sold on acconht of Boaley Bios, Canterbury, Mr My tton buying the pen at .£5 each. They also roport having sold, oc acoount of Mr Thomas Hunt, Booiney Marsh lams from £'6 2s 6dto£3 7a6d. Mr J. Maroden was also represented in this class, and salon wero effected on his b.half averaging £'d each. Mr Hudson was the successful purchaser of a splendid line ou account > f Mr Dorset., securing seven Rouiueys at £8 eachi the auctioneers report that tho Shropshire Down ram wa3 in good demandi On account of Lincoln College, Canterbmy, the highest sale was made during the day, the purchaser being Mr J. Byrne at M7s bd. Sales were made on account Of Nelson Brothers, Hawke's Bay, w. Grant, I imam, consignors, of Shropshire Down rams, prices ranging from M to £5 153. Merino ram3 from Mr Bell were in poor demand, pricos ruling from 35s to 52s 6d. Coriiedalos wero passed in at £ 4.
