WELLINGTON FRUIT AND PRODUCE MARKETS. Thompson Bros. & 80., Wellington, report (April 8) :— Fruit.- j Markefc has been very much overstocked with apples of all deecriptions, a large pro-portion being mothy and inferior. These have been very hard to get rid of ; and, as we have pointed out em several occasions, large shipments of the latter glut the market and make it difficult to obtain fair rate, for good fruit. We again urge shippers' to send only clean fruit, 'as it is far more satisfactory to receive smaller consignments- of a saleable kind than to have market kept down by large quantities of the above description. Pears have been in better demand, and we advise consignments. Island oranges sold well, as market was bare. Large quantities of tomatoes have come forward, aad demand has fal,en off somewhat on account of the ecld weather. Lemons from the north met a bare market and demand was good. Local water melons have not ripened sufficiently, and buyers complain that demand was not good in ponsequence. Choice hot-house grapes are in excellent demand ; out-door- grewn sell well, although prices obtained are not. a great inducemenr to grow ers. i Vegetables of all kinds are in good request, especially good cahbage and cauliSowers.
