No. 1, which no\v comprises the Permanent Militia Artillery, will be known as the New Zealand Royal Artillery: and No. 2, hitherto knowii as the Torpedo Corps, will be designated the New Zealand Royal Engineers. Lieut. Colonel Messenger, who at preset .commands the Permanent Militia in Wellington, will be ap- • pointed to the command of the whole. Colony under, of course, the Commandant, and all recruits for both branches of the service are to be enlisted by him. It is stated that McFherson. formerly qhie,f engineer of the Shaw, baville Company's liner Waiwera, has been appointed engineer of the sub-miner Janie Seddon.
