LONDON, March 15. The Conrt reception was largely attended, and was an exceedidngly brilliant function. There was an uninterrupted stream of carriages for two hours, and there were eager crowds of spectators despite an incessant downpour of rain. • Chili has ordered from Armsrtong and Co. and the Vickers-Maxim Company two 12,000 ton cruisers, to cost over a million each. They are fto be delivered within 18 months. Mr Arnold-Foster favours MrTrevelyan's suggestion to hold preliminary colonial examinations for Naval cadets. Lord Lamington, the late Governor of Queensland, in a paper read before the Colonial Instiitute, dwp.t upon the appallingly swift disappearance of Queensland aborigines. AUCKLAND. March 16. The steamer Sierra took from New Zealand the largest number of passengers that any Oceanic steamer has ever left this port for San Francisoo. She had considerably over 250 passengers, the majority of whom are booked through to England.
