LAND FOR SETTLEMENT.
' 4 return of the lands acquired by the Crown fir settlement purposes and now umer registration for purchase op to 31st ' March last was presented to Parliament yesterday. The lands acqiured have an ' area of 338,433 acres, at a total cost of ■ £1,886,971, and the roading liabilities total £30,000 Tbe land a quired during 3 1900 fjr workmen's homes was 902 acres 1 and for ordinary settlement 82,994 acres, the total cost of whion, exclusive of road- [ ing ami survey, wa* £356,850. .The approximate number of (arms is 177 and of 1 workmen's homes 150. The land now under negotiation for purchase or acquisition is 144,000 acres for ordinnry settlement and .for workmen's homes 750 ncres.
