THE COLOSSOPHONE.

Mr Harry Hooper's Colosaophone and Vaudeville Company opened a short Nelson season last evening in the Theatre Royal. Thero was a limited audience, caused undoubtedly by the counter interest which the election has created. The " Colossophone " is own brother to the *• Theatrophone," and iike it, is a vastimprovement on the old style of phonograph. The ■ instrument is a good one, and most of the numerous records Mr Hooper placed upon the inachino could bo heard with distinctness in every part of the building. Miss Beresford sang a number of sentimental songs, for each of whicii she gave, in response to applause, an encore. Miss 'Trucie le Mar also sang a number of songs, chiefly serio-comic, being well received, and in addition executed some skijt-dancing. Miss Vida Lodder, a diminutive dancer, performed an artistic Highland Fling in costume, and received an encore for the same. Mr H. Hooper contributed a large number of the songs in negro character, each of which were much appreciated. Mr H. Silbon's chief performance was a really remarkable " dislocating feat." He stands with his back to the audience, and turns the upper part of his body, including his head, completely round, till he faces the audience. In addition, he did some more contortions and sang a number of songs. The company performs on Thursday evening again at the Theatre, and as the election excitement will most likely have subsided somewhat, the attendance will probably he larger.
