ABATTOIRS FOR NELSON. THE VOTINGTO-MORROW, The ballot of ratepayers on the proposal to borrow .57500 to erect an abattoir for the inspobtioD, slaughter, and dressing of the meat supply of Nelaon, and to do away with the slaughterhouses so strongly condemned by Mr Oilruth, Chief Veterin anan (o the Government, will be taken" to-morrow between the hours of 9a m. and 6 p,m. The voting will be under the new Municipal Franchise Aot, but only freeholders and ratepayers will be qualiHod I o vote, the numbers being , - Ratepayers' List ... ... nil Freeholders' List ._, ... 209 m_ , ~ 1320 1 he " one man one vote " principle, and not tho plurality of a property qualification, will be applied, and the result will be decided by the bare majority of those who vote. Alluding in his sermon at tbo Congregational Church lost Sunday to sanitary matters iv Nelson, the Rev E. C. Isaac spoke strongly on the need of improvement in the method of slaughtering and distributing the meat supply of the city, and he urged all who had tbe best interests of the city at heart to vote iv favour of the loan proposal to-morrow. He also advocated progress in sanitary matters generally, and held that all food supphe. should be thoroughly inspected before distribution. „,*_ a "netting oi the Waika'o Farmers' Uub, the other day, Mr Saanderson, one or the newly-appointed Government ™«riiiary surgeons, was called upon by the Cbairman fora few remarks, and took the opportunity to speak plainly respecting the slaughter-houses in the district.
