The Co art was crowded all day at the hearing of two charge* against John Mitchell of having an interest in illicit still* on October 14th snd January 2oth respectively. Mr McDowell, Collector of Customs at Greymouth, swore that Mitchell waa an informer by letter in an il - licit still case, for which one Wieberlitz •got six months in gaol, and aUo in con-' neetion with the discovery of a second ;StiC«s January 20th, tor which an old ;jna,n aimed jenmns was sentenced to pay £100, or to eight months' imprisonment. ■Jackson, who received a similar sentence ifor the last case, swore that Wieberlit/, Mitchell, and himzelf were partners, and tthat he and Mitcheii deliberately entrap ; ped Wieberlit2, and divided the £50 reoeirod between them ; also that they engaged Jennens. and then put the police •v»2uni.
