SHOCKING FATALITY AT WELLINGTON.
A SLIPPINa HAWSER. A MAN KILLED AN** ¥OUR PEO PLE INJURED. [United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, February o. A shooking accident happened while the s.s. Tarawera was being bronght np to her 'bevfcn this afternoon, juat before four o'clock. The hawser which was beinp Wed to warp her into position sprang over a pile heiid, and with a lond report levelled all those ivho were standing j^ea* about a dozen in all. Andrew Torniaa had his skull frucfciued, and died twohoure afterwards in the Hoping. Sergeant Hadrell and F. Tromffle^ ?eoeived severe wounds en the tejv^Je, and J. Maokav was cut on $b 9 chin and his wound had to be sewn up Mrs C. lligg also received a a severe scalp wound, but, the others ware not hurt to any extent.
This Day. Tha man killed in Ihe accident at the berthing of the Tarawera was Mr Andrew Torning, a resident of Aurora-Terrace, and formerly employed by Kirkcaldie & Stains. He was married, and about 30 years of age.
