ACCIDENT ON THE ROCKS ROAD.

A BOULDEK STBIKES A SPKING- ' . CART.

An accident, which should teed to caution on the part cf persona using the Rocks Road occurred on the south side of the basin about a. quarter to eight this morning. Mr W. R. May, of Richmond, was driving to the Port in a springcart, in which four others were seated, including Mrs May and her mother, Mrs Monk, of Kaiapoi. Shortly before reaching the Basin, a piece ot rock, two or three feet in thickness, slid down from the lower part of the cliff and fell in front of the wheel of the trap. The wheel was carried over the boulder, with the result that the occupants of the vehicle were shot out on to the road. They all leceived some bruises, and Mrs Monk, who is an old lady of about 70 years, sustained a severe shaking. She recovered sufficiently, however to be able to leave shortly afterwards by the steamer Rofcoxna, to which she was being driven when the accident occurred. The other members of the party escaped with some damage to their clothing, in addition to the bruises. The norae stopped when the rock came down, and both the horse and trap were uninjuied. A resident who saw Mrs Monk and the other ladies on the steamer after the acoident, says that Mrs Monk was sufferiDg from & very severe ahock, and she was quite ill when the steamer lett. Her companions were also greatly shaken and prostrated. Mr May has a painful cut on his forehead besides other braises. Theincident points to -the necessity for immediate attention io this dangerous part of the road.
