THE NELSON EDUCATION BOARD.
The Nelson Education Board met in Committee yesterday. Accounts, The Treasurer's (Mr Maginnity'a) ac count waa as follows : — General Account. Cr, £ s. d. Cr. £ s. d. By Bank balance 2563 7 2 Less votes authorised ... 1178 14 6 Balance £1381 12 8 Teaciiersiiips. The following -toachership applications were dealt with :— Win's Valley (8). The names of Misses E. A. Phi.lips, M; Cultharr, and I. Kenyon to be forwarded, being the only certificated applicanta. Woodstock (7)i Names of Misses E. A. Phillips and M. Colthart to be forwarded. Nelson Town Schools (pupil teachers), (10). All the names were forwarded aB follows : -Kate Hanson, Vera France, Beatrice Kitching, Rose Nalder, Edith J. Seldon, Emnia G, Besley. Eliza M. Clayden, Cora Blaok, Julia Wright, Lilian M. Dykes. Reefton (2). All forwarded. Fibe at Pokokoho. The offer of a room as a temporary school at Pokororo to take the place of the building burnt down was accepted, and £3 was voted for necessary expenses. The matter of replacing the school books was deferred .till next meeting. The Chairman and Messrs Franklyn and Maginnity were deputed to hold an inquiry into the cause of the fire. Salaries. It was resolved— That Miss Hunter, pupil teacher at Collingwood, be informed that she is already receiving the maximum salary; that Mr Malcolm, of. Motueka, be informed that the fixing of his salary at £200 per annum would be considered at the annual revision in •January ; that the Board could not depart from its original resolution re Miss Hughos' additional salary. Miscellaneous, It was resolved— To consult tho Commissioner of Crown Lands re an aore of land adjoining the Waimea West school ; to alter the plans of the Motueka Valley Bchool to accommodate 35 instead of 30 ; to alter south porch, Haven Road School, as suggested ; to get legal advice as to Board's liability to pay the special Btreet improvement rate at Westport. Mr T. Hickmott's tender for painting sohool and cottage at Collingwood was accepted. The Chief Inspector was authorised to procure Kindergarten apparatus in view of the return of Miss M'Eaohen from Wellington. On the Board resuming the resolutions were confirmed. The ordinary meeting of the Board was held to-day. Owing to extreme pressure on our spaoe the report of tho formal proceedings is unavoidably held ovor till to-morrow.
