Federal Convention Election. New South Wales and Victorian Returns. Cardinal Moran Defeated.. [United Press Association.] Sydney, This Day. Polling day for the Federal Convention eleotions was yesterday observed as a holiday. The elections passed off quietly throughout the colonies. The latest returns show that the followiug are the 10 leading candidates for New, South Wales : Mr E. Barton, Q.C., Mr Carrnthers (Minister for Lands), Mr \V McMillan (ex-Colonial Treasurer), Mr G. H. Keid (Premier), Mr J. H. Lyne (Leader of the Opposition), Mr J. N. Brunker (Oolouial Secretary). Mr R. E. O'Connor, MJj.C, (ex-Minister for Justice), Sir Joseph Abbott (Speaker), Mr Walker, and Mr B. R. Wise, the last two having replaced Mr Henry Copeland (ex-Minister for Lauds), and Mr See (ex-Colonial Treasurer). About 140 small recurns are still to come j in, but it is almost certain that there is little ohancß of Cardinal Moran being included among the 10. Melbourne, This Day. The following ten will probably be elected : — The Premier (Sir Geo. Turner), Dr Quick, Mr A. J. Peacock (Chief Secretary), Mr I, A. Isaass (Attorney-General), Mr Deakin, Mr Treowith, Sir Graham Berry, Mr Eraser, Sir William Zeal, Mr Higgins.
