COLLINGWOOD.

MINING MATTERS. ; Mr J. Tyler, who recently succeeded in obtaining a limited amount of capital at Wanganui to prospect one of the areas held by him at Cole's Creek, has now been at work on the lease for some weeks carrying on prospecting operations. The work consists in the driving of a tunnel from McGregor's Gully with the object of cross-cutting Johnston's United main reef, and the tunnel is now driven llOft. Three men are engaged under Mr Tyler, and it is expected that something tangible will be met with in the drive in the course of a week or so. As an indication of what may be hoped for from these operations we are shown some really encouraging specimens obtained from a small leader on the lease, which all carry a large proportion of gold. This is apparently a venture which has a promising future before it. Messrs Bell and Travers, of Welllington, directors of the Parapara Sluicing Company, are at present on a visit of inspection to the Company's property at Parapara. Mr T. G. McCarthy was also on hig way here but had to return from Nelson. We are glad to to report that the results of the operations at Parapara for the last month' or so are very satisfactory, and that the washing up last week exceeded expectations. We shopld soon now begin to hear of dividends from this mine, which every month continues to improve. ' We learn that that Mr Travers is also interested in some of the leases recently acquired near Cole's Gully, and intends to visit these properties durine his stay here. < ! . J i
