YESTERDAY'S PLAY.

Miss K Van Asch and Mr Ross beat Miss Campbell and Mr Kennedy, 6—2, 6—3. Miss Trininell and Mr M Rosb beat Miss , M'Eachen ahd Mr Paterson, .-.^-6, ; 6-3, 6-1. . ,

Play was continued till aftor soven o'clook last evening in the Tennis Tournament. All day long tliere was a scorching snn, which made matters somewhat -uncomfortable both for players and spectators, the latter attending in large numbers in the afternoon. Sunshades were in great requisition, and so wore cooHng drinks, there being quite a run on tho refreshment stalls, which fortunately were equal to the occasion. Despite the heat there was some brilliant play, and frequently the spectators showed their admiration by heartily applauding. This was especially tho caso during a brilliant exhibition by Messrs Parkor and C. Gore playing against Messrs H. M. and Ross Gore in the mon's championship doublos. In this game the quartette of WeHingtonians played all thoy knew, Messrs Parker and Goro winning after a long and exhausting contest. Earilor in the day Messrs P. Marshall and J. K. Hooper beat Messrs J. M. Marshall and J*. Harold after a fino set to. Naturally after suoh a game aa he played in the doubles Mr Parker was rather stalo for his game against Mi- j. M. Mai-shall for the Championship Singles. Still, ho gave Marshall a great go, and at times both players were very brilliant. The champion (Parker) has a varioty of strokes whioh repeatedly beat his opponent, but the latter, playing very strongly, and by somo wonderfully smart roturns, gradually gained the upper hand and won amidst hearty applause, the scores in this interesting match bem"---(j -3, -I—o, 0-2, 6—4. Mr Marshall has to play off the final for the Championship Singles with Mr J. R. Hooper. Thoro was also somo very protty tennis in the gamo between Messrs C. Broad (Nelson) and C. Goro (Wellington), tho former winning (I—o, 7—5, 6—1, 6-4). Among the ladies thero was some brilliant play between Miss Mabin (Nelson) and Miss Kennedy, tho latter winning, and having previously dofoated Miss Leggatt, she will have to play off with Miss, Nunncley for the championship.
