THE HOLIDAY.
Considerable numbers visited the different picnic resorts on Boxing Day. A large party from town and country assembled at that dolightful spot known as Snowden's bush, and passed a very enjoyable day. Another, large party, ohiefly residents of Hope and Rivor Terrace, picnicked near the entrance of the I Wairoa Gorge at Palmer's busli! whilo yet another largo patry (including tho Collingwood-street Sunday school ohildren), enjoyed themselves at Simmons' buah, near Spring Grovo station. The Beohivo stores appeared to clo a good trade on Christmas Eve. Ono great attraction was it roal livo " Father Christmas " decked out in a long scarlet gown trimmed with,, white, and a very long whito beard; his liusihous appeared to bo to march about drawing tho attention of tho childron to the hig display of toys and making gifts of lollies. Thore were also a galvanic batter^ and a musical box. Mr Rowbotham also had a good display of vory cheap toys, otc, and did a very fair trado.
