TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT.
The Lawn Tennis Championship Tournament, held under the auspices of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, began at the Brook Club's picturesque grounds, Manuka-street, on Boxing Day. The competitors inolnde players from all parts of the colony, among them being the present champions, Miss Nunneley and Mr Parker of Wellington, and several exchampions, their presence naturally adding greatly to the interest taken in the contests. Great care has been bestowed upon the courts of which there are six— by Messrs C. Green (Secretary of the Association) and E. Levien, and thanks to tbeir attention they were in excellent condition, despite the long spell of dry weather. Every attontion has also been paid to the accommodation of players, and seating aocommodationfor7oospectatorswasprovided and about 400 peonle who watched the tennis on Saturday saw some excellent play. Thanks to the match committee the ball was "kept rolling," and there were no tiresome, waits between the games. The are greatly indebted to Mr Tatton for the use of his ground. His Excellency the Governor and party were present and watched the play, which commenced at 10 a.m., and at the close of the day the scores were :—
