[United Tress Association. 1 London, December 9. At a luncheon of the Empire Trade League, Sn Chas Tupper (.Canada) urged that the imposition of duties in favour of the colonies against foreigners was the only way to secure commercial federation of the Empire. Sir Chas. Tupper denied the assertion that the Australian colonies did not desire commercial federation. He said that preferential duties would meet the immediate necessity, and that the fears that foreigners would retaliate were unworthy of Great Britain.
