TORCHLIGHT PROCESSION AND SOCIAL.
■_____«__——__— ___«_fcß«_W_— ____—— ""••■^■* Provincial Hall, and it was largely attended, several members of the Trafalgar Druids' Lodge, Wakefield, also being present. The musio was supplied by Martin's string band, and the abundant refreshments were catered for by Mr Stovell. Bros. Haggitt, J. Simpson, Edmondsen, and Carter being the Refreshment Committee. The Hall had been prettily decorated by Bros Hobbs, C. Stewart, and J. Neale. At intervals between the dances songs were rendered by Miss Larkins and Mr Light, and Mr Fairey gave a recitation. Miss Trask and others kindly presided a*-- the piano. Dancing was kept up till a late hour, and all present thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Bros. Thomson and Levy acted as Ms.'C.
The torchlight procession, tableaux, and social last night in celebration of the fouth anniversary of the Nelson Druids were in evory way successful. The procession started from the Lodgeroom in Waimea Street at 7"80, and large crowds assembled in the streets through which it passed. The route taken was through Harpy Street to Trafalgar Street, thence to Bridge Street, nlougCollingwood Street, aud back into Hardy Street, and so round again to the Provincial Hall Appropriate march music was supplied by tbe Garrison Band, which headed the procession, and ooloured jires lighted at intervals lent much picturesqueness to the scene. A triumphal car, which was preceded by the grey - bearded white - robed touch • bearers, was adorned with sheaves, and under a canopy there posed the goddess of Industry (Miss Ward). Around her wero grouped the tutelary deities representing agriculture, manufaoture, and commerce, (the Misses tyeir). and Miss Stewart symbolised the craft of the iron-workers. The Tableaux Committee, who are to be ootnpjimented on the euccess of their display, were Bros. Jickell, Oakley, Jamieson, Ward, and Hill. They built the framework, canopy, etc,, while J\A. Bro. Oakley was Chief Marshal and iu charge of the procession. Mr W. D. Thomson (Secretary) and others also rendered valuable assistance. The brethren desire to express thankfulness to the police for keeping the crowd from getting in the way of the procession. The social gathering was held in tbe
