Mr Felix McGuire, M.H.B. for Egmont, addressing the electors at Stratford, said he stood at the last election as an Independent, bub that position was no longer tenable, and he now was a pronounced Oppositionist. • The Legislative Council sat for two hours, bat the only business transacted was the appointing of Major Baillie as Chairman of Committees. The Address in Keply was adopted on the motion of Mr Arkwright, 'seconded by Mr George 'Jones, The former spoke with fluency, bnt the proprietor of the "Oamaru Mail " appeared to be suffering from nervousness and he was inclined to be a trifle prolix. Both members, declared that the Government hah set itself to carry oat a too extensive programme. After a few remarks of an adverse nature by Mr Pbarazyn, the motion was adopted.
