A Protest Against Annexation] to N.S.W.
Disorderly Meeting of Residents. I
[United Press Association.! Sydney, This Day. News from Norfolk Island states that on the arrival of H.M.S. ltoyalist Commissioner Oliver called a public meeting of tho inhabitants and read his commission and a letter from the Goyernor of If ew South Wales, statins that the recent election of the Chief Magistrate was illegsl owins; to the non-observance of certain regulations, and directing that a fresh election be held. The letter asked the co-operalion of the residents in carrying out on inquiry. Previous to the arrival of the Royalist a public meeting was hold at which strong protests wero made agninst the proposal to transfer the administration from the Imperial Government to tho New South Wales Government. The speakers said that they would rather die than be annexed or have the constitution upset. Tbe proceedings were somewhat disorderly.
