Mission Work in China.
[United Press Association.] Wem-inqton, August 8, The Rev. George Nicoll, of the China Inland Mission, who spent 1 5 years in mission work in China, and witnessed the It Ohang riots some years ago, is at present in Wellington. He ia acquainted with Ku Chang and its neighbourhood, and is of opinion that the Sooiety of Vegetarians, which is responsible for the recent outrxge, is an isolated one. He suggested aB a remedy for the treatment which missionaries are subjected to tbe stoppage of the opium traffic, and to send missionary labourers into the country, although it would probably mean tbe sacrifice of further lives. The heathen Chinese were taught from childhood to hate foreigners, and it was for the missionaries to teach them better. In five years 481 male and 672 female missionaries had been sent to tbat oountry, and bad done an onormoas amonnt of Christianising work.
