Isaac delivered the first of a series of lectures on electricity in the Congregational Church yesterday evening to a good audience. The lecture wns of an elementary character, beginning with describing tho discovery by the ancients of the mysterious power by which amber attracted j light articles. The lecturer with tho aid of a battery made sundry little experiments, such as magnetising bars of soft and hard iron and hard steel. The lecture received the utmost attention from all present In future lectures Mr Isa:ie will explain the application of electricity to the telegraph, telephone, lighting, and power, and ho will also explain a scheme for making use of the river Maitai to Bupply the force for lighting and other services to the town of Nelson. The meeting of the Camera Club is postponed till Monday next, when matters with repaid to pictures for tho Wellington Club's exhibition will be discussed. Ou of a total of 221, there were on parade 177, including the Mounted Killes (32 out of 02), Blenheim llilles (03 out of 08), City Itillcs (31 out of 48), and Cadets (■l9 out of 03). The usual routine drill was gone through, and same considerable time was devoted to outpost work, Col. fox subjected the men to a good deal of examination as to thoir duties, Col. Fox said they wore a Jino body of men, He was pleased with the way the Cadets went, through their drill, ami a good deal of the credit was due to the instructors of the corps. The guides and markers were really good. The Mounted Jtilles were congratulated upon their clliciuuuy. Before thu parade of the City Hiljes was dismissed, Lient.-Col. Pitt said ha was sorry to boo the corps had diminished so much ; he did not know tho dause, biit reminded tlio men tbat ho would only be too willing to Investigate any matter brought before him, though the proper medium was their captain.
