NELSON BOWLING CLUB.
Tbo annual meeting of tho Nelson Bowling Club was hold yesterday evening, tho retiring President, Mr J. A. Preshaw in the ohair. The report stated that thero had been a markod improvement in the play and interest in the game, aud gave particulars of the matches of the season. Deep reg ot was felj. at the doath oi Mr H, Dodson. Satisfaction was folt at the condition of the green and tho earo devoted W ft by Mr I idgeon tho caretaker. The balance sheet showed an Improvement in the financial condition of tho Club. The report and balance shcot wera adopted. The following oiliceis were olootcd ; — President, Mr 11, W. Bobinson; Yice-Prcsi. dont, Mr Honry Edwards; Honorary Treasurer, Mr Win, Bout, junr; Hon Secretary, Mr A. E. Mansford; Committee; Messrs Preshaw, Baigent, Catley, Winton, Heaps, Eedgrave, and Lyell. Messrs James Wilson and IRalph Jackson were elected as Auditors, Mr H. Edwards proposed votes o( thanks to tho ofheers of last year, and paid high compliments to the President, Vioe-Fresi-dent, Secretary, and Treasurer, and to Mr It. W. W. Kingdon, who actod as Hon Secretary during a greator part of the season. Dr Cressey seoonded the proposition, which was carried unanimously. The vote of thauks was acknowledged by Mr Preshaw, the retiring President. Mr Robinson thanked the members of the Club for his election as President. He had had great dillidence in accepting of the ollice, as his knowledge of the game und his experience of management was slight. Last season he had little to do, as ihe late President had done everything tbat was required. He would try to follow Mr Preshaw s example, and would rely on his assistance and on that of the new Vice President. Mr Edwards thanked the Club for electing him Vii^e President, but would have thanked tbem more if they had not
done so. He would, however, tio his ' best. Mr Sime proposed that thore should be an aggregate handicap matoh for pairs during next season. There had been some trouble about such matohes in the past, but he thought such difficulties could be easily overcome in the future. The motion was secouded by Mr Mansford. On the suggestion of Mr Bobinson, Mr Sime altered his motion, so as to make a recommendation to the committee only. After some discussion, the motion as amended was carried. A vote of thanks was passed, on the motion of tho Chairman, to Messrs Kout and Sons for the use of their Board room for tlio meetings of the Club. Votes of thanks were passed to the auditors, Messrs Edwards and Jackson . Mr Greenfield proposed that no matches be played after two o'clock on Saturdays. Tlio Chairman said that that was the rule already, the only relaxation being in in the case of country members. H was resolved on the motion of Mr J. Shaip, junr., seconded by Mr Kcuipthorne, to recommend tho" Match Committee to institute a championship match for singles. The presentation of prizes then took place. The President's prize was won by Mr Winton, but unfortunately the piize, a nail* of bowls, hail not arrived. The Vice-President's prize was won by Mr Trask, and wns received in his absence by Mr W Kout. Mr Winton was the winner of the Ladies' prize. The Handicap Paiis -were won by Messrs Raiment and Sime. The Second Handicap prize was won by Messrs Winton and Sliarp. Mr Jackson's trophy was won hy Messrs Gannaway and Sime. The Consolation Prizes for singles was won by Mr Kout. Mr Winton desired to thank the ladies and the President for their prizes which he had been fortunate euoug-li to win. On the motion of Dr. Cressey seconded by Mr Sharp a hearty vote of thanks was given to the givers of prizes, the name of Mr Jackson being specially mentioned. The chairman said that Mes-rs Brown and Kerr, makers of the trophy won by Mr Trask, have offered to give a trophy for next year. It was resolved to thank those gentlemen. A vote of thanks to tho chairman closed the meeting,
