An Oregon man has hewed a 13-foot boat ' out of a cedar log, and in tbis little craft he proposes to make a voyage to Europe from San Francisco by way of Cape Horn, unless the railroad companies will allow him to reach the Atlantic seaboard, by putting his boat on wheels and usiug the tracks, sailing before the wind. A quaint custom is still observed at tbo Bishop of London's palace at Fulhani. The lodgekeeper each morning knocks the domestics up by tapping at their bedroom windows with a long pole.
