The Premier and The Natives.

[United Press Association.] HA web A, May 15.

The Premier arrived at Patea last evening, and this morning was waited on by a deputation of Natives. Tntangi deprecated visits to Parihaka, commended the work of the Public Trustee, and thought they rm_ht to be allowed to raise money on mortgage through him. Tutangi also objected u» the visit to Parihaka, on the ground that the Premier w-us a bigger man than Te Whiti and Toliu, aud should not go to them. All the speakers took this line, one remarking that the natires here were Queen's Maoris, and did not want to have anything to do with Te Whiti. The Rev. Hammond suggested that payment should be mado to Nativos on their settlements only, as much of the money was dissipated in travelling, etc , and drink. He did not think the Premier grasped the full significance that would be attached to his visit to Parihaka. The Premier thauked the Natives for their attendance, and said as this was his first visit it would be discourteous to pass Parihaka by. He had promised to go, and a promise must, be held sacred. He appreciated the importance of the request as to payment of money, and woiild have inquiries made into the matter. He was well pleased to hear satisfaction expressed with the Public Trustee's work. He was their best friend, and would see justice done to both races.
