The Tariff Commission.
after flitting through the colony like a galaxy of meteors for some months past collecting thousands of opinions, mostly from interested individuals or cliques, has finished its jouriieyinfis, but its report has not yet been presented, so that there is nothing positive as to its effect on the country. Only one thing is certain about the labours of the five, whenever there was debatcablc matter on hand a prompt division w..s taken and the result was invariably the same, 4 to I, which goes to prove there was no wabbling. Clutha McKcti-iu gets the credit of playing a lone hand, of course We are also told that there will be no relief as fur as the necessaries of life aro concerned. There will be a recommendation to alleviate the woes of the sheep-shearers by letting their weapons in duty free. But they won't get off any cheaper, for in common with their fellow-colonists of all sorts and conditions, clothing and boots, are to have further protection, so that a few big manufacturers may grow wealthy a good deal luster, and the general public will pay higher prices for worse goods. Oh ! dear.
