The Interrupted Survey.
Auckland, This Day. The armed force arrived at. JKuataki last night and fouftd the natives in the centre of the settlement waitine for a karero. In reply 'to Inspector liickson the natives said that they stopped the survey because they hod made no application for a survey. Some of the speakers regarded the survey as the tliin end of the wedge. Inspector Hickson explained that the survey was simply to Jdcline a block and that the natives could brin" applications for subdivision into the Land Court. Huri, a young chief, said that there would be trouble ll the Government persisted, but generally f,he natives agreed, not to offer further resistance, being content to enter a stroug protest. Inspector Hickson ssid that the surveyors would recommence work this morning, and must be got through without interruption.
