WESLEYAN CHURCH DISTRICT MEETING.
The session resumed this morning nt 10 o'clock, In addition to the ministers already reported, the following laymen took their seats. Mr R. Harker, Motueka, Mr «]. Boon, Mr J. H. H.rkuess, and Mr R. Saodgra**p, Nelson ; Mr A. She.it and Mr J. Rutherford, Richmoud ; Mr A, J. Litchfield aud Mr W. B. Paris er, Blenheim ; Mr J, T. Griffin Greymouth ; aud Mr J. W, Win, Motueka. Alter devotional ex.rci.es, the Chairman addressed the meeting, ne reviewed the work of the various Circuits, stating that he had . ffioially visited several, and that the work on the whole was both hopeful and successful, Church Properties.— The purchase of a quarter acre section by the Loan Fund Committee at the township of Blackball in the Greymouth circuit was reported. This was the only property acquired during the year. Discussing*** the condition of the Picton Church it was resolved that the building be either sold or removed, 'lhe deeds of the various properties are in charge of the proper custodian, and the whole of them, except the Dovedale church, were reported as insured. The gentlemen representing tha Motueka district were instructed to ab once place the matter before the trustees and see that an insurance is at once effected. Audits of all trusts have been properly held. The Arahura church has been sold, and the amount lodged for a new site. Additional loans for £'250 on the various properties have been secured. I'm. District Secretary, Mr J. Boon, presented hia report. The Trust income of the distriot has been £1503 17s od, while the expenditure has amounted to £1737 Is Id, leaving a balance defioit of £226 8j 7d. The amount of insurance ou distriot property was reported to bo £8315, au increase of £650. After considerable discussion on Ndw Zoa^aud Method. st uffai.s, a resolution iv regard to its mauagement was carried and ordered to te forwarded to Conference. The R_v T. G. Brooke was appointed distriot representative at the ensuing Conferenoe. Rible in Schools.— The Rev. J. Crump moved "That this meeting desires to express its full sympathy with the efforts now being made by various religious denominations in thia colony to secure the introduction of some form of Scripture teaching such as that contained in the Irish Text Book for use in our public schools " In speaking to the question the rev. gentleman pointed out tbatjthe introduction of such a book could in no wise interfere with the eili.ic.icy ol lhe present Act, and would at tho same time for ever remove the charge ot godlessness from the system. Tlie motion was seconded by Mr R. Snodgrass. The Chairman rend a letter from the Bishop of Nel.on bringing under notice of the meeting the resolution that was carried in the recent Dioce-an Synod The motion was very ably supported by Mr A. J. Litchlield, ami carried unanimously.
