RICHMOND CLUB.

The opening meeting of the Riohmond Club took plaoe last evening. The proceedings commenced with a pianoforte duet by the Misses MoEachen. Mr Talbot, the Mayor, expressed hia pleasure at being csked to opsn the Club this season. There had been some fear that after the departure from the dißtriot qf Mr Barker, the late President, the institution would fall through, but he waß glad that n successor had been found in the person of Mr Cowl*>, and he wished the Club oompleta Buouesß under his management. Songs wereomtributed by Miss McEaoheo, and Messrs Kidsoi, Holdaway and Crouoher violin and piano duets by the Misses SroDg, and recitations by Messrs Patersou aad StOEg. Mr Cowles, in stating tho objaots ol tho Club and the terms of subscription, referred to the neoessity of providing healthy reoreation for body and mind, which was one of the objects of the Club. The Committee had made liberal provision in the matter of games, but had passed a very stringent rule ngainst gambling in any form. The terms of subscription were the same as last year— Hon -rary members, 10i; new membere, 63; old members, sa; family tickets to the lectures, 7s 6d; aud siugle season tickets, 3i 6d. Sitae lectures had been promised, which would be duly announced, and they had a treat in store consisting of a limelight exhibition of transparencies belmgiigto the Camera Club, A sinjpngolasa would be formed under Mc Blair's leadership if a sufficient number of members oouid be obtained. Me Cowles called for a vote of thanks to all who had contributed to the enj >yment of the evening, whioh was heartily accorded.,

The room was tastefully decorated with hanging;?, the walls hung with pictura?, including some well-executed oil-paintings by Miss Hill and Mis 3 Fittall. The Camera Olub of Nelson sent a splendid selection of their picture?, which nfforded a great treat to those who had not seeu them in Nelson. Curiosities of various descriptions were arranged on the tible, the whole forming a very interesting exhibition. The lectures, etc., which are to follow, will bcaunounoed in due course.
