THE " SALLY BROWN " BAND.

TO THE EDITOH 01' THE "EVENING 81.UL." Silt, — The residents of the port have ior years been annoyed at night with the enormous voices of certain young men. Complaints have been made at various times about it, but heedless of this they still continued their old practice. About three months ago there was a lul'. The singing hud ceased. The Port residents wondered, and well they might, at such a season of calm, but, it was only temporary. They have come again in full force and, in addition to the singing, these diligent young men have formed themselves into a band consisting of a canvas drum and numerous other instruments which I will not attempt to enumerate. They parade up and down the Port foot-path almost eveiy evening regardless of pedestrians passing by. It is dangerous to get too near the swing of the drum-stick, and one is obliged to walk on the path whilst they pass. Their hours for practice are between 7 P-ni. till 10 p.m. they have almost succeeded in mastering

one tuue, their favourite, " Sally Brown " hence the sobriquet, the " Sully Brown Band. " The drummer beats ainbidextrously and keeps reckless time. They have adopted the Salvation Army system, play one verse, and sing another. They are a nuisance and require to be stopped. Hoping for the future that the police will be on their track.— l am, &c, Aut Critic.
