The New Ministry.
Wellington, May 1. Ministers were in Cabinet all day discussing the situation. At three o'clock Mr Seddon, in response to the requeet cf the Governor, visited Government House, and was asked to form a Government, A further Cabinet meeting was then held, at whioh it was decided that Mr Seddon should take the Premiership and Mr Ward the Colonial Treasurership, the other portfolios remaining as at present. This decision was communicated to the Governor, and at six o'clock the Ministers were sworn in. The vacant portfolio was not discussed, but the Post Btates that Mr T. Thompson of Auckn land is likely to be offered the portfolio of Minister for Public Works. A Gazette extraordinary, issued to-night, contains a notification of the acceptance by his Excellency the Governor of the resignation of Ministers. It also announces that the Governor has this day appointed Mr Seddon, Sir P. Buckley, Messrs Reeves, McKenzie, Ward, Cadman and Carroll members of the Executive Council of New Zealand, and that these gentlemen have taken the oath of office accordingly. The following is the new Cabinet : — Hon R. .1. Seddon — Premier Minister for Public Works, Minister for Mines, and Minister for Defence ; lion Sir P. A. Buckley, K.C.M.G. General, Colonial Secretary, and Minister for Mariue ; Hon W. P. Reeves— Minister for Eduoation, Commissioner of Stamp Duties, and Minister for Labour ; Hoa J, McKenzie — Minister for Lands and Immigration, Minister for Agrioulture, aod Commissioner of Forests ; Hon J. G. Ward — Colonial Treasurer, Postmaster General, Electric Telegraph Commissioner, and Commissioner of Customs ; Hon A. J. Cadman — Minister of Justice ; Hon J.Carroll (without portfolio), representing the Native ruce. It will be seen that the new Ministry consists entirely of the remauing members of the Ballance Cabinet". The prinoipal changes of office, outside the accession to the Premiership of the Hon it. J. Ssddon, Lave been the transfer to the Hon J G. Waid of the portfolio of Colonial Treasurer and Cotumis Bioner of Customs, aud pissing of the Marine Department to the ilou Kir P. A. Buckley. Mr Seddon, after fully considering the situation with his colleagues, la^ undertaken te carry on the Administration on Bimilar lines of policy to those followed by the Ballance Ministry until a meeting of the Liberal party at the opening of the Beseion is held, when the party will be asked to determine as to whether the present arrangement shall further oontinue. The Ministry (as telegraphed earlier in the evening) was gazetted to-night.
