MR JOHN HALE'S NURSERIES.

— o -— Mr Hale's nurseries are well worth visiting at any time of the year. This is especially the case just now of the Waimea Road one, which is exceedingly gay with chrysanthemums of hundreds- of varieties, eighty of whioh are new this season. In this nursery a large stook of ornamental trees and flowering shrubs iB raised and ready for the approaching planting season, among which are some grand specimen trees of Gunninghamia Lanoeolata, Wellingtonia Gigantee, Cryptomeria Elegans, Retinosporas, Cha» maerops Fortuni (Chinese Fan . Palm), Lambertiana Aurea, Drao tena Australia, Dracaena Nutans, Taxus Fastigiata (Irish Tew), Taxodium fernpervirens (Redwood), Thujopsis Dolobrata, etc. Theße ere large trees, giving gentlemen who are about to plant a splendid opportunity to meet their requirements* and a source of interest to visitors generally. The larger trees are well represented by young healthy plants ia good order for removal. Here also is raised every year a large stook of Roses, Rhododendrons, Camellias, Magnolias, Azaleas, Palms, Oannaß Araliaß, Erioas, and Native trees. Of Chrysanthemums "W. A. Manda " can be seen here. This is the yellow ostrich plume variety, deep golden yellow throughout. It must become one of, if not tbe most popular kinds grown, on aooount of its great beauty and its freeness to flower, quite as good in every respeot as that now well known variety Louis Boebmer, but there is possibly a point or two ahead in favour of W. A Manda, on aooount of its colour. Roballion— chrome yellow, is a most distinct and striking variety; Belle Hioky— pearly white florets, and first olass variety ; Ceseare Costa— deep rioh crimson, a grand exhibition variety ; Magicienne — orange — buff tinted, rose, salmon, and gold, a pleasing variety; Ismail —a novel variety resembling a cotton ball ; Mrs Fottler — soft rose, pink, is a grand exhibition variety and finest of roße coloured varieties ; Mrs William Waters— a sport from E. A. Audiguiet ; Marsa — rose and white, a Bplendid exhibition flower. These are only a few of an exceedingly large and ohoioe oolleetion, but we must leave the rest for those who care to accept the invitation of Mr Hale, who says " oome and see them." - < The Toi Toi Valley Nursery is situated at the head of Vanguard street and oan be entered by Tukuka or Tipahi street. It is used for the production of enormous, quantities of apple, peach, plum, apricot, cherry, neotarine, and pear trees , gooseberries, our« rants and other small fruits, hedge plants, vines, insignis, onpreßsas, maorooarpa, forest trees, eto.
