Educational Institute.
Wellington, This Day. The Eduoational Institute fiaished its ses* sion late last night. Resolutions were passed recommending that freedom of classification be tried in sohools as far as and inclusive of Standard III ; requesting the Minister of Education to consider the possibility of making the standard of examinations uniform throughout the various education districts of New Zealand ; requesting the executive to inquire into the feasibility of affiliating with the Civil Service Asssociation ; asking the Branch Institutes to again consider thequestion of a compulsory defence fund; and expressing opinion that the objects aimed at by those who wished to establish a Teachers' Union would be best gained by extending and strengthening the existing New Zealand Educational Institute. It was decided to hold a meeting of the Council at Nelson on the 9th of January, 1894. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year : — President, Mr E. Cowles (Nelson), Secretary, Mr W. T. Grundy, Wellington, Tieasurer, Mr H. Worthxngton, Auckland.
