FRIENDLY SOCIETIES' SPORTS, MOTUEKA.

The Friendly Societies' sports at Motueka, whioh were held on Thursday last passed off exceedingly well. The Nelson Garrison Band, who went over in the s.s. Elsie, pro* vided _ the necessary musio and helped materially to enliven tho proceedings. The Oddfellows and Foresters assomblcd at their various lodge rooms and marched to tho ground, the procession beiug a very impoa i'ig one. The sports were well attended, about 650 adults uayiug for admission, Mr Thomas Dunoan, the energetio seoretary, performed his arduous duties to the satisfaotion of all concerned. Ac the conolusion of the sports the members ofthe Sooietios adjourned tj tho Motueka Hotel where an exoellent dinner awaited them Over sixty sat down in the large dining room of the hotel, and an adjoining room was also filled. Visitors from Nelson, Richmond, and other distriots were present.
