MR. TENNYSON SMITH.
Mr E. Tennyßon Smith gave a recital of another of Gough'a orations last night at the Theatre Royal, the one chosen being that having the title of '• Man and his Masters.' 1 In this as on former occasions Mr Smith in addition tj performing an astonishing feat of memory snowed dramatic power of a very high order. Mr Thomas Petbit was in the chair, and at the close of the address the Rev F. W. Isitb made a few remarks, la his past recitals Mr Smith has brought his hearers into close companionship with two of the greatest orators the world has ever heard. The "King" of temperance advocates and the world's greatest modein preacher have been reproduced with wonderful fidelity and exactitude. To-nig-ht a treat of a different order is in store for his hearers. Mr Tennyson Smith is him3el£ possessed of great natural gifts as an original lecturer und platform orator, and in his character of Counsel for the prosecution in the " Trial of a notorious criminal " he has always attracted crowded audiences. In reference to this "trial," a contemporary says of Mr Smith's speech for the prosecution :—" He spoke for an hour and three- quarters, dealing out fact, ridicule, and argument, interspersed with numerous racy anecdotesjwhich kept the audience in almost constant roars o£ laughter."
