A Reuter's telegram from St. Paul, Minesota, says : — " A despatch received here from JNanaimo, Vancouver Island, gives an account of a terrible landslip on the banks of the Skeena river, by which a white woman and forty Indians were killed on July 7th. The people residing near the Northern Pacific cannery on the Skeena river heard a rushing noise in the direction of a Bteep mountain at the back of the cannery-, and a moment afterwards they saw an avalanche of rocks, earth and treeß falling. The occupants of the houses were able to rush outside, but they had uo time to escape tho torrent of debris. Nine houses were overwhelmed, and their occupants killed. A young Swedish womau, the wife of a foreman, was carried down with the avalanche for a distance of hundreds of feet, and waß dashed to pieoes. Thirteen bodies havo been recovered, The Indians are greatly excited, and are bitterly mourning the deaths of their relations and Mends. Recent heavy rains were the cauße of the landslip.
