The latter plaoe was sacked by the mob, who indulged in excesses of the worst kind. Women wero abused under circumstances of revolting brutality. The German war ships are now protecting the ; place, At Talcuhuano the troops revolted .-' and were joined by four thousand miners. The men shot all their officers and sackee the town. There is a violent feeling against Mr Egan, the American Minister, who is acoused of harbouring refugee officials in the American warships. Order has been restored in Santiago. A German cruiser with Don Claudio Vicuna, who was to have succeeded Balmaceda, and many other official refugees, has gone north, and will it is believed land them at Callao. It has been, found impossible to bury those killed in Friday's battle, and the bodies wil) be cremated.
