NELSON TROTTI NG CLUB'S

Pnjllent: Mr^AviMoKellM Wix ; Vice Preawknt^ilr^.-'Trftßk | Stewards ; Messre W.Coleman. George Green. 0. 8. Sharp, J. Glen, John Gay, H. Andrew*, Mr 0 1 Neill j Judge: Mr C. B. Sharpj^ter; Mr o, Bird; Treasurer: MrO. S, Sharp; Handioapper : Mr W, Golemanj Timekeeper: Mr R. Hunter ; Clerk of Cowae*. Mr 0. 8. Harley; Olerk ol Scales'. MrW. J. Gome j Seoretary, Mr T. A. Askew. The Club were favoured with one of Nelson's moßt lovely days for their autumn meeting, whioh was held yesterday on the Riohmond race oourse. There was a very poor attendance, and from enquiry at the gates we learned that only •boat 260 persona had paid foi admittance ; bo that, allowing for members and others having complimentary tiokets there could not have been more than 360 people on the course. The great attraotion yesterday was undoubtedly the Volunteer Review held at Brightwater, and it is unfortunate thatit v/us not held on the land adjoining the course, for had it been, there is no doubt that the racea would have beeu muoh better attended, and attendance means success in a more or lets degree. The ladies were conspicuous by their abßenoe, only a very few being present, the Grand titand most of the day presemiug a very dreary appearance, while the lawn was anything but gay, its occupants con. Biating mostly of tbe sterner sex. Unless these raoes become more popular the Club will have to put up the shutters. 'Ihe railway arrangement* were hardly as good as usual. From Brigutwattr and Richmond there were no trains tor town between noon and five o'olook ; to bo moro preoiße, trains left Brightwator at 1230 aud 645, and Hiohmond at 1246 and 6 p.m. However, the manager must not be grumbled at, as lie has but a United amount of rolling stook at his disposal, and it if* impossible to plea3e everybody, bomo of one races were very good, ana som» reumrkubly tame. Tho Hack Handicap was a pretty race, Echo and titeam having a good struggle for first place. The Birthday Haudioap was, to our mmds, the race of cho meeting. Christmas Rose was in grand ooudition. aud ran well. Viowry and Black Diamond were not at all out of the runniug,' and at one time it looked very muoh as if Viotory was going to pull it off. Considering tne Bmall amounts iv the total" iaator, two Very good dividends were paid, via,, £l&s 12 and *6 13b. Mr F. N. Jones ran the maohihe with his aooustomed skill, but did/not do nearly aa muon business bb he ooula%kTe wiahed. H« »l»o ißsued the "coH«Qfc card" of the races.
