Wellington, September 29. To-day is fche date on which the electoral rolls by law close. Supplementary rolls will be made up till the issue of the writs. On the day they are signed, a circular telegram j will be issued to all Registration Officers, ! who are then bound to finally close the rolls aud no fresh names can be put on, but those to which objection has been made can be struck off up to the day of the election. Mr Menteath has made up his mind not to stand for Wellington. Ministers are in communication by telegraph re the dates of the eieotion whioh will be later than was at first intended on aocount of the neoessity for a rivision of the rolls to a large extent. Timabu, September 29. Mr S. F, Smithson, solicitor, stands for Timaru. There are 208G names on the principal roll and many more have been given in since it was made up. Oamaru, September 29. The electoral roll of the Oamaru district is printed. It contains 2061 names. There will probably be a large supplementary roll. Inveroargill, September 29. Mr Richardson arrived to-day but does not deliver a political address yet. Dunedin, September 29. Mr Thomas Mason of Port Chalmers contests that seat in the labour interest. Christohurch, September 29. Sir J. Hall is announced as a candidate for Ellesmere. Blenheim, September 29. At a meeting of his old Committee on Saturday night, Mr H. Dodson announoed ibat it waa not his inteution to stand again for eieotion and he would reoommend Mr Seymour to bis oonstituenls. The meeting was not unanimous in favour of Mr Seymour, and will consider tho question agnin tomorrow. Later. Mr A. P. Seymour haa announoed his oandidature for the Wairau, and Mr S.J. ilaoa lister is also a candidate.
