The holders of New Plymouth Harbour Board stock condemn the Bank and the Government for the non fulfilment of obligations, and are calling a meeting to consider the marter.

Mr Gladstone in presenting an address to Mr Thos. Potter, at the Cobdan Club, admitted that Freetrade was undergoing a period of danger, and that its doctrines had lost much ground during the past quarter of a century owing, to a large extent to European militarism, and American and Colonial action in excluding Chinese, whioh was Pro teotion pure and simple. It was, he said, the virtues and not tho vices of the Chinese that were dreaded. He believed that Freetrade would triumph in America shortly.
