The Puhipuhi Beefs.

Auckland, December 21, The Mines Department! have received the following telegram from the Inspector of Mines at Auckland, who was sent to Pnhipohi to repoit on the silver find :— " I have visited the place where the disoovery of gold and silver has .been made in the prospeotor's ground, and brought back assays from the different reefs. The assays have been completed by Mr JRhodes. Nine of the reefs, though nearly all carrying traces of gold, and a little silver, are practically worthless. The tenth, named by the prospectors the " silver reef, " may warrant further prospecting. It averages 1 dwt 18 grs of gold and 2 oz 13 dwts of silver to the ton, making a total value of £2 sterling per ton. I have no authentic" information of any other disoovery io the district, about which reports have appeared in the newspapers,"
