Mr Molfatt, the wharfinger at Motueka, I asked for authority to purohase a barge to I carry six tons, which could be obtained for j £13 Is 6d. — Mr Pattie said there was a bank near the wharf on which steamers often I stuck, abd with this barge, Mr Moffatt, J assisted by another man, could clear away the silt at low water. — Mr Phillips said there J was a balance to credit of the wharf I account which would be profitably spent on j the barge. — Expenditure auhorised. j A letter was^received from Mr A. Thomp* son respecting the Baton punt, towards j j which he had been compelled to pay £39 6s 3d as well as the £10 he had originally contributed. He said he had previously I paid £120 towards the Baton road, and he j did not think it fair that he should have to pay the whole of the amount for whioh judgment was recently given. — Messrs | Phillips and Griffiths, while admitting that Mr Thompson had no legal claim, thought that the Council might favorably consider j his case. — The Chairman pointed out that the Auditor might have something to say on the matter if they voted any money for that purpose, and after some further discussion, it was resolved on the motion of Mr H.arkness that Mr Thompson be informed that the Council has carried out its agreement with the residents m the l«oality for erecting the punt and cannot recognise any liability in reference to past expenditure. — It was further resolved that Messru Phillips and Griffiths be requested to inspect the punt and report at the next meeting- what is required to put it into good working condition. Mr Fattie called attention to the needs of the Pekororo settlers. There was no main road in th« district, and unless they received assiitaDce from the Council, their distriot roads would become impassable. — It was stated that the rates at the disposal of the Board vrera only £27 a year, and that tae Council had already expended a considerable sum on the road en the opposite side of the river, which also belonged to the same Bottlers.— The Council agreed to consider their case at a future date. Mr Harknesa said that just before leaving Wellington he had received a letter from Mr Newman relative to the state of the road in the Rai Valley. There was a vote of £1000 available for the road, and the Minister had told him that he would do what he could on the matter being reported to him through the proper channel.— Mr Sinclair said the worst part of the road was outside the County, and he moved that they apply for ,£3OO to do the necessary work within their boundary. — Agreed to. The Inspector was instructed to proceed against butchers who had not taken out slaughter house licenses. Mr Griffiths oalled attention to the protective works near the churoh at Dovedale. — The Chairman said that the land belonged to Mr Humphreys, who objected to the works being carried out.-— Mr Griffiths said the road would be destroyed unless they were Completed, The Council adjourned, and will meet again on the Ist October,
