Passengers: Aliases Beeves, Oliver, Mrs Gilmer, Messrs Blundell, Carroll, and Bunny. • — steamer Penguin, 472, Allman, for Taran.ki and Matrokau. Passengers: Mrs Hart and family, Messrs Hart, Fowler, and Ah Kum. Captain .Edwin reported at 12*12 p.m. :—" North and east end south east gale within next 12 hours, with heavy rain and sea heavy iu the Bay. ludioa-ti«i*rpad-and for very high tides. " The Charles Edward was detained here last night by bad weather, »nd wilt, if prsotioable, sail at 12 o'oloo-t to-aight for West Ooaat ports. The Kennedy reports a heavy flood and very bad weather at Hokitika, where she is d«tained to-day. The Mu'ray was unable to leave for Wanganni last night, bat, weather permitting, will sail at 9 o'olock to-night The Hawea leaves Wellington at 1 p.m. on Monday, will arrive here on Tuesday morning, and sail by the same tide at noon on the retura Bouth. The Mawhera leaves Wellington on Monday night, will arrive here on Tuesday morning, r>»d sail at neon for Greymouth, The Mahfoapua being bar bound at Westport by bad weather and heavy fbod, will not oall here this trip. -J '-.ha Keranni arrived from Greymouth at 8 o'olook last t.ighr, but owing to the hea*y N.W. gale blowing did not sail for Wellingtoi until 9 o'olook this morning. The Cady Barkly sails for Golden Bay at 7 o'olook on Monday night. fe The Waitapu makes a trip to Motueka on Monday, lea-ring here at 9*30 a.m. and there on the return at noon. The Penguin sailed for Taranaki and Manukau at 10 o'olook this morning, her departure having been Sestponed until then on account of the bad weather, he will, if possible, work Taranaki to-night, and reach Manukau to-morrow. She leaves the latter port on Monday on the return trip, as she has to be at Lyttelton on Friday to take the outward San Franoisot mail to Wellington-. Atrial of speed took phco between the Peaguin and Hawea on Tbnrsday afterneon, The former was from Wellington and the latter from Nelson, and they met in the Bound, aad had a run to-gslher to Picton. The Penguite however, is a. little faster than the Hawea, and reaehed her deslinatien first.
