lors to give him their cordial assistance, a to do this ho felt cure he might rely vp ou them. The Town Clerk said tbat great complaints had been made of late by residents on the higher levels of the soaroity of water. The Works Committee had lately met and recommended proceeding- to be' taken by the Inspector, but as tha report could not be brought up before Friday he suggested that he should be instructed to insert an advertisement in that evening's paper warning people not to waste the water. Mr Fell said, if he might he allowed to speak, that he should like to mention tbat ho was at the Lunatio Asylum yesterday, wben Mr White informed him that the supply bad stopped altogether for the last two or three days. He felt sure that the scarcity was the result of wioked waste, and not of an insufficient supply. Cr Everett stated that at his house they had had no water for some time except in the evening, Cr Harley said the waste was in watering gardens, and he thought all people guilty of a breach of the by-law should be fined. The Mayor said that having heard of the oomplaints he had driven up to the dam, where he found an abundant supply, and the water running over the dam At the College he had been told there had been nothing but a mere dribble for some days. Cr Levien said the oomplaints were too true, and it was a most atrocious thing that they were so, for there was plenty of water for all, if none was wasted. The Inspector had told him of two or three cases where taps were left running at the houses of people who ought to know better, and he thought they ought to be striotly and severely dealt with. It was then resoWec^ that the Town Clerls publish an advertisement in that evening's Mail, warning people of the consequences of : allowing the taps to run.
