THEATRE ROYAL.
Once moro thero was a lnrge attendance at the Theatre last night, when " The | Sbaughraun " was put on the stage, and proved a great success, the audience being occasionally enthusiastic in their applause, nnd some of them almost hysterical in their thorough enjoyment of the oddities of Con, the Shaughraun, who found a most worthy representative in Mr Taylor, always a favorite with Nelson theatre goers, between whom and himself a still closer bond was formed last night, as he might have gathered from the cheers that, immediately prior to the fall of tbe CKrtain, formed the response to his enquiry, '' "Ye'd go bail for me, wouldn't ye?" Miss Juno made an excellent Claire Ffolliotb, and was especially happy in some of her interviews with Csptain Molyneaux (Mr Rede), who comported himself bravely under occasionally very trying circumstances; Mies Carrington, as Moja, retained the hold she secured at her last visit to Nelson on the hearts of her audience; Miss Lizzie Lawrence did fairly well as Artie O'Neal, and Miss Lily Hill, despite, or shall we say by the aid of, her unsympathetic VjCjice, contrived to gain the sympathies of all to whom she confided her troubles. Of the male characters — we have already spoken of Mr Taylor who towered above all the others— Mr Kennedy as Corry Kinchella and Mr Wilson Forbes as Harvey' Duff, the police spy, are deserving of the highest commendation, but none of the others rose above mediocrity. To-night, rain or no rain, there should be a bumper house, for " The Strategists," which is to be produced by special request, is far and away the most amusing of all the pieces selected for the Company's, present season, and affords ample scope for the excellent acting of all the most prominent members.
