OUT REEFTON LETTER.

(From our own Correspondent.) Quite a small buzz of excitement, tho first for a lengthened period, has been occasioned here by ths finding of a new reef in Boatman's district. It is said to give promise of being equal to 3 or i ounces of gold to the ton. However that may be, there is no doubt that some very rich stone has been discovered, and quite close to the surface, situated between Boatman's Creek and the left hand branch of the Inangahua river, and directly on the line of the Welcome reef. Tho discovery may prove of great value to the district; on further development. Sain slid holds off, bub inasmuch as at Hokitika and some other places on the coast there has been a copious downfall we are not without hope that we will be similarly blessed presently. The apparent break up of the drought reported last week proved delusive. The share market generally is remarkably firm. The first crushing of the Venus Company is a marked success, and this result, together with the splendid appearance of our leading mines, such as the Welcome, Alpine, and Keep It Dark, ;a gradually restoring confidence. Welcome shares have advanced to £3 10s, and are very firm at that. Tbe Called B,ack Dramatic Company have had a very successful se&sori here, and purpose returning on their way back to Nelson, after completing their other engagements in Westland. As I close this letter a little rain is agaia falling, with a lower glass. Reefton, March 9.
