THE FIRE AT UPPER MOUTERE.
("From our own Correspondent.) Oa Friday night between 8 and 9 o'clock our quiet village was aroused by the cry of " fire," wherilfc was found that the hop kiln of Messrs S. and W. Drummond was on fire. A spark muso have gone up, for those that attending were not aware of it till the scrim was burning. As the kiln was attached to the barn, and that again to the large mill building, in a very short time the fire was over all. Nothing was saved but a plough aud v reaping machine. The engine, large i chaff cutter, threshing machine, winnowing machine, twelve bales of hops, and innumerable other tools, &c, were burnt. The loss 13 estimated afc £3000. Nothing waa insured, and all the fruit of 30 years hard labor in a few hours was burnt to the ; ground. All the neighbors assisted, and there waß plenty of water, but they could not get near the fire on account; of the ex- i cessive heat.
