NEW ZEALAND.
Thames, Monday. A Pad accident occurred in the harbor on Saturday afternoon. The brijrantine Sea Bird arrived from Auckland. Mr Bayldon. Harbor Master, pub off for the purpose of piloting her up the river. Among the crew was a young man namel Henry Harris, engineer of the dredge. Upon reaching the vessel a rope was thrown from on board, to which Harris and another man held. The ship was travelling at fhe rate of three knots. The men were ordered to let go. but Harris did not appear to hear, and continuing his hold he -was drawn overboard, ami "after continuing at the end of the rope for about 200 yards, sank, and did not reappear. Dragging operations have since been carried on. but without success. Harris had not been long at the Thames, and was formerly employed in the s.s. Kennedy. "Waxgaxui. Monday. The second, information against William Lingard, late brewer. was heard to-day at the Resident Magistrate's Court, and defendant was committed to take his trial at the Supreme Court. He was liberated on his own recognisance. Six other cases are yet to bo heard. DcsKnix, Monday A barmaid at one of the leading hotel?, feeling insulted by some remark made to her yesterday by an individual notorious for his attention to the fair sex, told him he would hear more of ifc. She waited upon the alleged insuker this afternoon afc his office, and producing 1 a horsewhip from beneath her dress used ifc pretty freely across his face, nrck. and shoulders, and to such an extent that he did not, consider flight ignominious. The affair has naturally caused "a good deal of excitement.
