The police decline to surrender the bills. The sheriff, in order to obtain the consent of the Attorney-General for the surrender, asked for a further hearing. The application was adjourned. A widow named Rome, who was on a visit to her parents at Smythesdale, drowned herself yesterday at noon. She was suffering irom a religious mania. She had attended religious revivals at Ballarat, their she carried on business as a milliner. She was told by the revivalists that she was commissioned by God to regenerate the world. At the inquest the magistrate expressed a very strong opinion that the authorities should interfere with such cases as that under notice.
